Full Product Description
A limited-edition release as part of The Glasgow Distillery’s Small Batch Series; their ongoing set of bottlings that demonstrate the versatility of whisky made at this contemporary urban distillery. The Small Batch Series showcases their three whisky making styles across peated, unpeated, and triple distilled single malts with a wide range of new and exciting cask maturations.

The Glasgow 1770 Tokaji Cask Finish release is a six year old bottling, created from four casks with initial maturation within first fill ex-bourbon barrels for a minimum of 3 years and 4 months before an extended secondary maturation within Hungarian Tokaji sweet wine casks for 3 years and 6 months.

Called the “wine of Kings, the King of wine” by Louis XIV, Tokaji is a dessert wine that has been made in Hungary since the 18th Century, although this type of wine production can be traced back to 1576. Produced from grapes influenced by noble rot, and therefore becoming sweetened, Tokaji wine typically boasts notes of balanced sweetness, apricot, peach, orange zest and chamomile.

This is not the first time that The Glasgow Distillery has utilised these rare wine casks. In 2021 they released a Triple Distilled Tokaji Cask Finish bottle with an ABV of 53%; in 2022 they released an Unpeated Tokaji finish which was the contents of a single finishing cask presented at 58.1% ABV; and in 2023 they released a widely acclaimed Peated Tokaji Cask Finish which was bottled at 53.4% ABV.

This new release utilises only unpeated double distilled single malts; the style of whisky characterised by the distillery as fresh, fruity and robust in character.

Glasgow 1770 Tokaji Cask Finish is a marriage of four casks: 16/855, 17/812, 17/813, and 17/814. The contents of each were initially matured within first fill ex-bourbon casks for a minimum of 3 years and 4 months, before a finish within the Tokaji Wine Hogshead casks for 3 years and 6 months. This release was bottled on the 3rd of June 2024.

Bottled at 54.8% ABV with 1300 bottles available, this release is characterised by its solid bourbon cask influenced backbone with a rich and tropical twist provided by the Tokaji casks. Experience notes of thick manuka honey with slightly floral notes, balanced against fruity notes of mango, pineapple, dried apricots, and orange peel before deeper notes of nutmeg spice and freshly planed oak.
